Maya 5

Some time ago I've been searching for an animation graphic designing software that'd meet my expectations in creating 3D graphics... I was keen on mastering that more than anything else and I searched for a program in Oman... truly I had no information or experience in this field, yet thought that despite all the machines they used to make graphics in movies and what not, there had to be a software that could do all that.
So I went into the shop and asked the shopkeeper for a software where I could create my own 3D graphics... surely he didn't take me seriously at first and gave me a blank look. After realizing I was for real he gave me a list of programs I never heard of... and none seemed to give the results I wanted until finally I came across Maya. So far the only software I found which has the exact 3D modeling I was looking for, moreover, the new version consists of water and fur effects. Ofcourse the software itself I assume is quite expensive, nevertheless I took the learning edition... Maya 5... the newest the librarian could give me.

The functions are quite amazing... there's almost nothing you can't do... but also amazingly difficult when you go deeper into it. It is however something future 3D graphic designers would find useful. Even the basics are intense, yet something I was happy to find after a long search.

What I found quite intriguing were the different tools and the unique way of being able to do one thing in more than one way , in addition to actually adjusting the tools in a way you're most comfortable with. Even though I've been through the first few pages... I realized I would need more, since the learning edition software doesn't offer all the tools listed in the book. Nevertheless, this is one software that has quite the results I need. For more information visit the links bellow:

Maya is a very heavy and complicated program , I tried it once last year..and I really couldn't figure out much on how to use it. I found 3d studio max and cinema4d ( also 3d programs ) alot more easier to use and much more user friendly.

In addition to what nabhan said; C4D is the easiest among the three of these programs ( 3DSM, MaYa and C4D ). I really don't know why you are just jumping to use Maya before having background about 3D modeling, texturing, etc. Maybe you can start at first with the very basic 3D modeling programs like Swift3D, AutoCAD ,, etc.

With no doubt, maya is such great and powerful program but I really don't like the built-in rendering machine, never the less, 3DSM seems easier and more superior than anyelse. There is also a 3D program that is better than 3DSM which is called [ SoftImage ]. I almost have the full version of SOFTIMAGE xsi v4.0 and I can tell you how easy to model with these program and adding materials and texturing. The rendering is just amazing and looks more really especailly with MentalRay rendering machine.

What I really suggest you that you have to start as "very beginner" and never give up because 3D modeling ain't that easy at the beginning. Just don't think that within few days that you can make something professional "unless you get a mircal :P " .. just be patient, keep practicing and never give up. Show your works to professional designers [ I suggest: Graphic Forums , Help 3D or Oman 3D ]

Maybe you need to follow some tutorials and get use of them in your future designs? Here are some links for Maya tutorials ... hope you benefit from them :)

I'm really so happy seeing a Omani girl interested on graphic design and by the way, there is this college of graphic design in front of Qurum Natural Park I guess!!

Goodluck though ;)

Nabs: yeaaah! I know it's difficult!! :D... but the book I have is for complete beginners and so far I'm quite happy with it... so far I've learnt how to adjust cameras, lighting, and the different shortcuts to altering an object. Also the difference between a polygon and an NURBS shape... I know they're basics... but it starts with that... I wish I could go further if only the learning edition would allow it... I can lend you the book if you want... it's about 900 pages, but very detailed...

FH: Thanx for all the tutorials... but answer me this... do these programs deal with wireframes when making a model?.. cuz true I never heard of them... yes, I know I have to take this step by step... but as many tutorials as they have online... they'd never help unless I have the program and can work on it.. (which I sadly don't).. and trust me.. by turning on these maya pages, I am perfectly aware how much patience this would need :D... I've already set my mind to it though... I'm dying to bring my characters to life... lol... and the uni I wanna go to have Maya as their software... but ofcourse I'll take a look at the others... thank youu! :)
u're glad girls are taking this field?? I thought almost all girls in Oman were taking graphic designing as a major........

well if you have the book 3t then thats great. I am personally working on cinema 4d at the moment and been reading many online tutorials about it. It's alot more user friendly and easier to use and a much lighter program than the other ones.

and yeah..I perosnally never got to know a girl who is really into graphics.. mostly its the guys who get into it for some odd reason..so its really refreshing that u're into it. ;)

:) that's cool nabs... if the program gives out the same results in a simpler way then I guess it would be dumb to go for the difficult one...
use what suits you best :)

wha..?really? no girls ....aha... interesting.

Maya is that great 3D software. Comparing it to 3D Max Studio, we will find that Maya is more for movies, where 3D Max is into making games.

Two of my guys are really deep into it, I am amazed with the way they deal with the software, & amazed more with their work.

By the way, the version 6 or 6.5 I guess is already out!

that's amazing...
what could possibly be new in the new version...
Do you guys buy or download the software??
or neither...

Unknown said...

I buy a pirated version or just download it. the originals are way too expensive to be honest.

TripleTee said...

that's true... but what's a pirated version?? :S

NiGhTFaCe said...

I believe the most download it, & spread it to the other.

This software is that expensive, then I dont think its that much available here in Oman, just in case if you would make an order!

TripleTee said...

hmm...ofcourse u have to order it...
but I was just wonderin what a pirated version was...

NiGhTFaCe said...

Pirated version means these illegal copies.

TripleTee said...

ooo, that!! I get it! thnx

Interesting way of expressing it...
